AMC recently aired the season 2 finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon—The Book of Carol. The season concluded with a great lead-in to the third season, which will be set in Spain.

Tread lightly as this article contains some spoilers for season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will continue its story with a third season. Production for this season moved from France to Spain, beginning in August 2024. The first look (below) was revealed on Nov. 3.

The first confirmed detail is that Melissa McBride does return as Carol in the third season. This fact was a given as the season finale showed Carol and Daryl making their way through the Chunnel toward England.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 cast

Reedus and McBride will return, but there has been no information regarding the return of Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, who plays Laurent, Manish Dayal as Ash, or other characters like Codron, played by Romain Levi.

UPDATE: In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scott M. Gimple stated, "There are different things I've been working on, and I have absolutely played with how Laurent might fit within those things in America."

The series adds Emmy Award-winning actor Stephen Merchant and Spanish actor Óscar Jaenada to the season 3 cast. Both are featured in the first look promo video, which reveals the season in an old West-type theme. Several other cast members were announced in early Sept., including Eduardo Noriega, Alexandra Masangkay, Hugo Arbués, and Candela Saitta. On Sept. 26, another list of cast members was announced: Cuco Usín, Gonzalo Bouza, Greta Fernández, Hada Nieto, Stephen Merchant, Yassmine Othman, Irina Björklund, Armando Buika, Javier Taboada, Boré Buika, Anna Gras, Claudio Bandini, Pedro Bachura and Elena Sándell.

Showrunner David Zabel teased a bit about Merchant's inclusion in the series, stating, “Stephen Merchant is in the first episode and plays a very interesting character that we come across towards the beginning.”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 release date speculation and more

It is always difficult to speculate when a series will premiere its upcoming season. AMC will roll out the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City in Spring 2025, which could mean another fall release for Daryl Dixon, but nothing has been announced.

Zabel has teased that Daryl and Carol make an "interesting stop"  before arriving in Spain. The first-look video shows them arriving in London, possibly traveling by sailboat, and arriving in what could be Spain. The teaser's tagline reads, "Their journey continues. Together," but it appears part of their journeys could be apart, as Daryl is seen on a solo motorcycle ride. By the end of the trailer, they are together again.

They both desire to return to America with Laurent, where he can be safe, but their route home will not be a direct one. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Zabel had this to say about Daryl and Carol's journey home.

"The characters should not settle down. It should be a road show. They have to keep moving [to return home]. At the end of season two, they’re going somewhere. We don’t know exactly where, and it’s not a direct line to the next place they go. But the idea is to keep the characters struggling and striving to get home and moving."
