The season finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol aired on AMC and AMC+ on Nov. 3. This episode did an outstanding job leading the story into the third season, which is expected to premiere in 2025.
Tread lightly as this article contains spoilers for season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol.
The season finale began with a tender moment between Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi). Daryl found a guitar he gave to Laurent, who showed off his playing skills by playing a rendition of the Rolling Stones, "You Can't Always Get What You Want." which Daryl joined in singing.
One of the main objectives of this episode is to get Ash (Manish Dayal), Carol (Melissa McBride), and Laurent on their way to America via Ash's aircraft. Ash, who is still understandably mad at Carol for the lie she told to manipulate him to help her, finally agrees to do this favor.
Jacinta (Nassima Benchicou), who now leads the Union of Hope aided by Genet's (Anne Charrier) former right-hand Sabine (Tatiana Gousseff), makes an alliance with Anna (Lukerya Ilyashenko). They work together to stop Ash from leaving with the plane. But Daryl and Carol saved the day, and Ash and Laurent took off safely. This was an extraordinary scene where the duo worked together again, doing what they did best.
Akila (Soraya Hachoumi) is a newcomer traveling with Fallou (Eriq Ebouaney), Codron (Romain Levi), and Nadine (Chrystal Boursin) as they scavenge at an old mental institute. They are captured by Sabine (Tatiana Gousseff), who previously was the right hand to Genet (Anne Charrier). She informs them that Jacinta (Nassima Benchicou) will see the prophecy of Laurent fulfilled, and she wants Ash's plane. Eventually, viewers see Jacinta and Anna agree that they will help each other so Anne can have the plane and Jacinta can have Laurent.
Carol and Daryl travel back to Paris with Akila (Soraya Hachoumi), a newcomer traveling with Fallou (Eriq Ebouaney), and Codron (Romain Levi). They meet up with Angus (Matt Swift) and Fiona (Sarah McCardie) who will accompany them through the Chunnel, undersea railway tunnel, to flee France to England.
Along their journey, they come to a checkpoint and discover that the people there shot and killed each other. This is likely due to hallucinations brought about by the massive amount of guano, aka bat feces, that can act as a psychoactive. Daryl, Carol, and Cadron all experience hallucinations in the tunnel and encounter fantastic bioluminescent walkers.
Carol begins to have fuzzy vision and hallucinates that one of the walkers looks like an older Sophia. She follows her and then sees a walker that resembles herself. She struggles to kill it, and when she finally does, she sees Sophia, holding her doll, in front of her. They hug, and Carol asks to accompany her, but Sophia breaks away and walks on.
Codron, who earlier in the episode learned that Daryl wasn't the one who killed his brother, begins to hallucinate about his dead brother. It turns out it is a walker, and Daryl kills him, saving Codron. However, he comes at Daryl thinking he killed his brother. They fight, and when Codron sees another walker, he believes is his brother, he follows him.
Daryl, after being wounded by Codron, searches for a gas mask to limit his exposure. He is betrayed and attacked by the guides, who take the last two masks. He then begins to hallucinate visions of Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), who died in a previous episode. She reminds him to "Bet on hope," something she told him when they first met. He regains his composure and kills the guides, taking the masks. She bids him Bon Courage, Mounsiour Dixon, and walks away with fireflies following her.
Daryl and Carol find one another and continue on through the tunnel, where they will make a stop in England on their way to Spain, as The Rolling Stones's "Can't Get What You Want" plays to end the season.
The Walking Dead - Daryl Dixon has been renewed for a third season which began filming in Spain in August 2024. Viewers will see Carol and Daryl in an "Interesting stop" before heading to Spain and find out what happened to Ash and Laurent. We may even see Codron again.
