Strange Darling is a new thriller directed by JT Mollner that is the horror MUST SEE of 2024. The movie stars Walking Dead's Kyle Gallner, who is no stranger to horror movies as he previously starred in The Haunting in Connecticut, Jennifer's Body, and the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010). The film also has another Walking Dead universe tie-in as Keith Carradine, who played John Dorie Sr. in Fear the Walking Dead, is featured in the movie's soundtrack with singer/songwriter Zberg.
Mollner directed and wrote Strange Darling. He is known for his first feature, Outlaws and Angels, which stars Chad Michael Murray. Former Miramax CEO Bill Block, Chris Ivan Cevic, Steven Schneider, and Roy Lee produced the Miramax and Spooky Pictures production. Strange Darling premiered in 2023 at the Fantastic Fest. The film's theatrical premiere begins August 23, and the movie holds a 98% ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.
Strange Darling synopsis: Nothing is what it seems when a twisted one-night stand spirals into a serial killer's vicious murder spree.
The movie was shot on 35mm film by Emmy and Screen Actors Guild award nominee Giovanni Ribisi, who has a cameo. Gallner (Smile, Scream 5) stars as the Demon, with Willa Fitzgerald (The House of Usher, Scream -the series) as the Lady. The movie also stars Barbara Hershey, Ed Begley Jr., Jason Patric, Madison Beaty, Bianca Santos, and Steven Michael Quezada.
The trailer (below) let's the viewer know that "this is a dramatization of the true story of the final known killings of the most prolific and unique American serial killer of the 21st century."
Strange Darling soundtrack
The official soundtrack for Strange Darling will be released on August 23, coinciding with the movie's release. The album includes a hauntingly beautiful stripped-down version of "Love Hurts," a song first performed by the Everly Brothers in 1960 and Nazareth in 1974. The soundtrack features a new version of the classic arrangement by Emmy Lou Harris and Graham Parsons. The cover is performed by former The Like bandmate Zberg and Academy Award-winning Keith Carradine. Take a listen below.
Zberg
Zberg is a former member of Mark Ronson's teenage girl group The Like, and Phases, an LA dream-pop group, who has continued her musical career with her successful solo venture. Her music has been featured in films and TV, including the Grammy nominated album Aurora for Prime Video's Emmy winning Daisy Jones & The Six series. The soundtrack for Strange Darling is her soundtrack as a solo artist.
Keith Carradine
Carradine is a member of the Carradine family of actors, which includes his father, John, brothers Christopher and Robert, half brothers Bruce and David, and Michael Bowen. While he is known for many notable roles, including Wild Bill Hickok on HBO's Deadwood, Frank Lundy in Showtime's Dexter, and Penny's father on the CBS series The Big Bang Theory, he is also a musician.
His brother David is quoted as saying that Keith could play any instrument he wanted, including bagpipes and the French horn. Carradine would meld his love of music with his acting career, winning a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Original Song for "I'm Easy" for the movie Nashville. He had a brief career in music, releasing two albums with Asylum Records, I'm Easy (1976) and Lost & Found (1978).
