Strange Darling horror thriller starring Walking Dead's Kyle Gallner releases trailer

Actor Kyle Gallner is well known for his roles in horror films such as The Haunting in Connecticut, Jennifer's Body, and the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. This summer, add another horror title to your 2024 must-watch list as Gallner stars in his next horror thriller, Strange Darling.

The movie is written and directed by JT Mollner, known for his first feature film, Outlaws and Angels, starring Chad Michael Murray, Francesca Eastwood, Teri Polo, Frances Fisher, Luke Wilson, Madisen Beaty, and Ben Browder. Mollner's next project will be an adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk that will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who directed the first four movies in The Hunger Games series.

Strange Darling, called a cat-and-mouse thriller by Bloody Disgusting, premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 to rave reviews. It is currently sitting at a 100% ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Miramax and Spooky Pictures Production, Strange Darling, was shot on 35mm film by Emmy and Screen Actors Guild award nominee Giovanni Ribisi, who also produces and has a cameo in the film. Additional producers include former Miramax CEO Bill Block, Chris Ivan Cevic, Steven Schneider, and Roy Lee.

The story follows the lady and the demon during a hookup that takes a terrible turn. Variety reports that learning as little as possible about the film before watching makes for a better viewing experience.

Willa Fitzgerald (The House of Usher, Scream -the series) portrays the Lady with Gallner (Smile, Scream 5) as the Demon. Additional cast includes Barbara Hershey, Ed Begley Jr., Madison Beaty, Bianca Santos, and Steven Michael Quezada.

The film is distributed by Magenta Lights Studios and will see a theatrical release on August 32, 2024.

What is Kyle Gallner known for?

Gallner has many credits to his name, including roles in many well-known series, including Veronica Mars, CSI: NY, The Walking Dead, Smallville, and more. He is also known for his roles in many horror films, for which Collider named him the Modern Scream King.

He played a cancer patient tormented by demons in the 2009 film The Haunting in Connecticut and also starred in Jennifer's Body, The Cleansing Hour, Scream 5, and Smile. On October 18, 2024, Gallner will star in Smile 2, a sequel to the 2022 psychological supernatural horror.

In 2023, he starred with Holland Roden in Mother, May I? This psychological thriller tells of a woman who begins taking on characteristics of her fiance's deceased mother, forcing him to face his deepest traumas to help her. He also starred in The Passenger, a thriller in which a man confronts his past to survive when his co-worker snaps and goes on a killing spree.
