The Secret Art of Human Flight starring Maggie Grace comes to VOD in August

Actress Maggie Grace appears in the sci-fi fantasy dramedy The Secret Art of Human Flight, which will be available on demand beginning August 23.

The independent film, directed by H.P. Mendoza (Fruit Fly, I Am a Ghost) and written by Jesse Orenshein (American Ninja Warrior), premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Festival. In 2024, distribution rights were acquired by Level 33 Entertainment, and the film was released in theaters in July.

Paul Raci, who made headlines with his stand out performance in Sound of Metal, stars alongside Grace, Grant Rosenmeyer, Lucy DeVito, Nican Robinson, Reina Hardesty, Rosa Arredondo, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.

Ben (Rosenmeyer), after the sudden death of his wife, is consumed with grief and cuts ties with his sister and her husband. While perusing the dark web, he comes across a book penned by an eccentric guru named Mealworm (Raci), who claims to have discovered the art of flying. Ben, desiring to learn to fly, purchases the book, and when it arrives, so does Mealworm. This leads Ben on a journey led by Mealworm, where he must face his problems, including his family troubles, foul play accusations, and bizarre rituals, all in the pursuit of overcoming his grief and perhaps acquiring the ability to fly.

The Secret Art of Human Flight currently has a 95% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100% audience ranking. Critics from Variety and RogerEbert.com have also given the film positive reviews, sighting Mendoza's direction and Raci's supporting performance. Check out the trailer for the movie below.

Rosenmeyer is well known for his role in The Royal Tenenbaums and Fugue, a film he wrote, directed and starred.

Raci is well known for many roles, including the above-mentioned Sound of Metal and the HBO series Perry Mason. He also stars with Fear the Walking Dead and Rustin actor Colman Domingo in the drama Sing Sing.

Grace is known for her roles in Fear the Walking Dead, and Lost, as well as the Taken and Twilight series of films. She also stars with Minka Kelly and Dermot Mulroney in the crime drama Blackwater Lane, which is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.

DeVito, daughter of Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, is well known for her roles in the FXX animated comedy Little Demon, Hulu's Deadbeat, and Melissa & Joey. She will appear in A Sudden Case of Christmas with her father.

Ramamurthy is best known as Mohinder Suresh in Heros, Gabe in Beauty & the Beast and Jai Wilcox in Covert Affairs.

Robinson has appeared in 13 Reasons Why, Beef, Heist 88, and Ahsoka. He also has several upcoming projects including a thriller, Toxic Harmony, releasing this fall.

Arredondo portrays Francey in So Help Me Todd, which is available on Paramount+. She has also had roles in Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, Ordinary Joe, Roswell, New Mexico, and more.

Hardesty's credits include It's What's Inside, What Comes Around, and Brockmire. She will also appear in the Prime Video spy series Butterfly with Piper Perabo and Daniel Dae Kim.
