The Walking Dead: Dead City production promo features new and returning characters
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead: Dead City is the fourth spinoff of The Walking Dead, whose first season aired in 2023. This series marks the first direct spinoff featuring characters first introduced in the main series. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise their roles as Maggie Rhee and Negan Smith in the story, which is set primarily in Manhattan.
Recently, AMC released an in-production video highlighting many returning characters and gives a glimpse of the newly added Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) as Bruegel, a leader of one of the gangs in post-apocalyptic New York. The promo features a behind-the-scenes look showing many walkers and sets up the new season to be action-packed.
As expected, Cohan and Morgan return as the main characters and the video also shows clips of Lisa Emery as The Dama and Željko Ivanek as The Croat. These two characters are allies working to take control of Manhattan. At the end of season 2, The Dama had Negan in custody, trying to convince him to return to his old ways and join her efforts.
Other characters featured in the latest promo include Gaius Charles as Marshal Perlie Armstrong, a man whose actions from season 1 will greatly affect him in the upcoming season. Mahina Napoleon will return as Ginny, a young girl who Negan cared for after her family was killed. She would learn that Negan was responsible for the death of her father and was last seen being taken to The Bricks, Maggie's homebase.
Dead City season 2 episode count
The second season of Dead City is reported to consist of eight episodes, two more than its debut season. This is exciting news as many viewers believed six episodes wasn't nearly enough to tell the story. According to the recent promo, TWDU veteran Michael Satrazemis will direct the first two episodes of season 2. Satrazemis is extremely talented and has worked on the main series, Fear TWD, Tales of TWD, and The Ones Who Live.
When does Dead City return?
According to the latest teaser, Dead City will return to AMC and AMC+ in 2025. The series began filming in Massachusetts in April, and according to the casting call sheet, filming will continue through July 2024 in the Boston area.
