The one Walking Dead spinoff fans are quietly losing hope for

It's been years since we've heard any updates about this new Walking Dead spinoff, leading us to believe it might have been quietly canceled.

The Walking Dead franchise is one of the longest-running in television history. It has built a massive, passionate fanbase across more than a decade of survival stories and spinoffs. Of course, nothing will top the original series. But there are some spinoffs that have come surprisingly close.

I mean, think about Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. All three of these shows managed to recapture something essential about what made the original show so compelling. They didn’t just exist to extend the brand. They gave fans new places to explore, new relationships to invest in, and new reasons to stay emotionally connected to this world long after the original story ended.

Sure, the franchise also has its duds. But even with a few misfires, the franchise proves it can still surprise and engage. However, we're in a bit of a drought at the moment. There are only two ongoing spinoffs, and it's been like that for a while now. Those shows are The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City. What's even worse is that Daryl Dixon will be ending its run this year, leaving only Dead City to carry the weight. AMC is going to have to step it up if it wants to keep the franchise alive and relevant.

Remember that new spinoff announced by the network back in April 2023? What happened to it? It's been years since it was announced to be in development, and there haven't been any new updates since then. It could have been the perfect addition to the franchise, but we're starting to think it'll never see the light of day.

More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe might have been quietly canceled

Sadly, this is the conclusion we've come to. This is the one Walking Dead spinoff we think might not be happening at all anymore. Look, we know it can take a long time for TV projects to move from announcement to release, especially in a universe as complex as The Walking Dead. But the complete lack of news, casting, or production updates for More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe has left the fanbase feeling frustrated and quietly losing hope.

It just doesn't make sense. Brand new seasons of Daryl Dixon and Dead City have come and gone since the announcement of More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe, and yet, not a single update has emerged about this spinoff. That's not good, and it's only led us to believe that AMC may have quietly abandoned it. Perhaps things are just taking longer than usual. But we're starting to worry that “taking longer than usual” has crossed into outright neglect.

More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe would follow in the footsteps of Tales of the Walking Dead, offering an anthology format with six stand‑alone stories set within the zombie universe. Scott M. Gimple, the chief content officer for The Walking Dead television series franchise, would reportedly be over the series.

But until we get official word from AMC or the show's creative team, the future of More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe remains uncertain.
