In November 2025, The Running Man, a 1987 film adaptation of Stephen King's novel, is getting a reboot. Both films are based on King's book, written in 1982 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. A long time Fear the Walking Dead actor will appear in the latest adaptation.
Directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead), the new movie was written by Wright and Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). Paramount Pictures recently delayed the film's release, pushing it to November 14.
The story is set in a dystopian society where a game show, The Running Man, pits contestants against murderous "hunters," with the chance at winning the grand prize of $1 billion. Contestants, or "runners," are challenged with surviving for 30 days as their fight for survival is broadcast to a bloodthirsty audience.
The movie follows Ben, who agrees to participate in the hope of winning the massive cash prize that would aid his desperate attempt to save his sick daughter. "Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite — and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall.”

Glenn Powell leads the cast as Ben Richards, a role Arnold Schwarzenegger played in the original film. He is joined by an all-star cast, which includes Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding) as a contestant, Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) as show producer Dan Killian, Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy) as hunter Evan McCone, and Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) as Bradley, a rebel who helps Ben. FTWD actor Colman Domingo stars as game show host Bobby Thompson, a role Richard Dawson played in the original.
Below is the official trailer for The Running Man, which features a good look at Domingo as game show host, a role he was made to portray.
Domingo has risen to prominence with numerous starring roles since the conclusion of Fear the Walking Dead. He portrayed the villain-turned-hero, Victor Strand, in the series for all eight seasons. He starred in Greg Kwedar's critically acclaimed movie Sing Sing, the musical adaptation of The Color Purple, the Netflix thriller The Madness, and the Netflix biopic Rustin, where he portrayed Civil Rights activist Bayard Rustin.
In 2025, the actor starred with Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, and Erika Henningsen in the eight-part series The Four Seasons. The series was an adaptation of the 1981 same-titled movie starring Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, Sandy Dennis, and Len Cariou. Netflix has renewed the series for a second season.
Domingo has several upcoming projects, including the Wicked sequel, Wicked: For Good, where he will portray the Cowardly Lion. He will portray pop superstar Michael Jackson's father in the biopic Michael and star in the Untitled Steven Spielberg sci-fi film scheduled for release on June 12, 2026.
