The Walking Dead franchise officially has no shows planned after the release of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4, which will premiere in February 2027.

Have no fear, though, Walking Dead fans! Scott M. Gimple, the executive producer of Daryl Dixon and chief content officer of The Walking Dead, shared a major update with fans during a recent interview with TV Insider from New York Comic.

In the interview, Gimple, stars Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, and showrunner/exeutive producer David Zabel what it was like saying goodbye to the series and the franchise.

"We're not saying goodbye to the universe,' Gimple said. "So, it's just to the show."

McBride, implying that Gimple might know more than he was letting on, asked Gimple to clarify what he meant and if that's something only he knows, basically, and he had a better, longer answer.

"No, I think it's something everybody knows," Gimple continued. "I'm going to give a spoiler. The world does not blow up at the end of the season. If the world doesn't blow up, the story continues one way or another. Just the story of The Walking Dead, the story of The Walking Dead universe."

This is obviously some amount of reassurance for fans of the franchise. The Walking Dead: Dead City season 4 has not been announced at AMC. While it's still likely, Daryl Dixon season 4 is the only new season in the works right now. As things stand, once Daryl Dixon season 4 comes to an end next spring, there's nothing for Walking Dead fans to officially look forward to.

Now, that's probably going to change in the near future. I am fully expecting that The Walking Dead franchise will continue to expand. Dead City should be renewed for season 4. That should be announced before Daryl Dixon season 4 premieres.

From there, who knows where The Walking Dead will go? Well, Gimple, for one.

There's been chatter for a long time about a big Walking Dead reunion series for a long time. There's been a lot of talk about bringing Andrew Lincoln back to reunite with Daryl and the rest of the surviving characters.

At Undead Walking, we've been covering the rumored plans for the future of The Walking Dead franchise for a long time. AMC has chosen to remain quite quiet about the franchise's future. There aren't many reasons why that would happen, in my opinion, unless the network is waiting until Daryl Dixon season 4 comes to an end to announce what's next. Maybe there's a big clue in the Daryl Dixon season 4 ending that no one wants to spoil right now? That's a big possibility.

We also learned that AMC Chief Content Officer Dan McDermott revealed there are discussions to keep Reedus involved with The Walking Dead franchise after season 4 of Daryl Dixon. I don't know how that would happen if there weren't plans for another series after Daryl Dixon.

So, for now, we'll just have to continue waiting until the cast, Gimple, the powers that be at Walking Dead HQ, or AMC want to comment on the future of the franchise and to confirm what's next. The good news is obviously that Daryl Dixon season 4 will not be the end of The Walking Dead. The time may come at some point for fans to say goodbye to the franchise, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

We'll share more updates about the future of The Walking Dead as we find out. For now, don't miss Daryl Dixon season 4 in February 2027.
