On May 15, AMC announced the Walking Dead news we had all been waiting for. The network finally revealed the official premiere date for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3, as well as dropped the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated installment. As expected, fans didn't know what to do with themselves following all the good news. And now that time has passed, it's clear the hype isn’t dying down anytime soon!
But what is one Walking Dead fan to do as they wait for Dead City season 3 to start airing? Well, what we'd recommend is watching some of the best zombie shows on television. Don't worry! You don't have to go digging through multiple streaming services to find something worth your time. We've put together a list of three gripping zombie series for you to add to your watchlist right now!
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (2023-)
Of course, it wouldn't be right to put together a list of zombie shows to watch and not include Daryl Dixon. Most Walking Dead fans are likely already caught up, but I know there are some out there who may not have jumped onto this spinoff bandwagon just yet. Well, now is the perfect time! There are three seasons ready for you to stream right now on AMC+, and a fourth and final installment is confirmed for a 2026 premiere on AMC.
A new season of Daryl Dixon has typically aired sometime after Dead City's new installment finishes its run. Dead City season 3 will premiere on AMC on July 26 and likely wrap up sometime in August or September. That puts the potential Daryl Dixon season 4 premiere date sometime in September, October, or November. But again, this is just our prediction. As of right now, AMC still hasn't revealed the official premiere date for the fourth installment. We'll just have to keep waiting!
Daryl Dixon follows OG Walking Dead character Daryl Dixon as he finds himself stranded in Europe. While there, he encounters flesh-eating walkers, new survivor groups, and dangerous human threats. In the show's second season, fellow original Walking Dead character Carol Peletier joins Daryl on his journey. Both are determined to survive as they search for a way back home to America.
Black Summer (2019-2021)
Black Summer is one of those zombie shows that people just didn't appreciate enough, and it's a doggone shame! But regardless of its short-lived two-season run, it's still an enjoyable watch when you're in the mood for a gritty zombie drama. Given that Black Summer was canceled and there's no need to rush to watch it, we'd recommend saving it for last.
The zombie series takes place six weeks after the start of a deadly zombie apocalypse. We follow a desperate mother named Rose, who, after being separated from her daughter, embarks on a dangerous journey to find her. Along her travels, she encounters survivors with their own backstories.
Given that Black Summer is a Netflix original, both seasons are available to stream on the platform. That means you don't have to jump around to different streaming services to keep up with the story. All 16 episodes are in one place!
All of Us Are Dead (2022-)
Last but certainly not least is All of Us Are Dead. Now, this zombie series might turn some people off because it's a Korean-language show with subtitles. However, don't let that put you off. It's just too good of a show to miss! If you're not a fan of subtitles, you can always switch to the English dub on Netflix. But I'd personally advise against doing so because the show just doesn't hit the same that way.
All of Us Are Dead primarily takes place in a high school in South Korea, which quickly becomes ground zero for a zombie outbreak. Throughout the first season, viewers watch as the students struggle to survive as the infection spreads rapidly through the school.
Since season 1 was such a huge success, Netflix renewed the zombie series for a second installment in June 2022. However, it's been a painfully long wait for season 2. The streaming giant has yet to announce an official release date for All of Us Are Dead season 2, even though it's been over three years since the show was renewed. We can only hope at this point that we might see the second season by the end of 2026. If not, we'll probably see it early next year.
If we had to give a watch order for the way in which you should watch the three zombie series on this list, we'd go with Daryl Dixon, All of Us Are Dead, and then Black Summer. Of course, you could always mix things up. We're just giving a suggested order to help you out!
