The Walking Dead began as a series of comics by creator Robert Kirkman, which snowballed into today’s giant franchise. Every fragment has made and contributed to the world to which fans have dedicated themselves. Time may have seemed to have gone by quickly, but the show has been on for nearly 11 years now – crazy!

The contribution brought to TV by The Walking Dead is huge and it is no surprise that it has the global effect it does. It proves to us that by building bonds and coming together we can make things the best they can be. I mean, isn’t that one of the most positive messages to share?

We are so close to the premiere of the new and final season, The Walking Dead, on August 22.
There is still much more to come within the universe, and one thing is certain, the importance of TWDU to fans cannot be denied.

Supporting a fandom is an important way for fans to express their passion for a show whilst also expressing themselves. The Walking Dead really took the world by storm and became one of the biggest series on the planet. What makes this show so special is how it relates to fans lives and shapes us as people, everyone with their own reasons for loving TWDU.

From all 147 episodes we have seen so far, they have put fans through pretty much every single emotion. We all have our favourites and the ones that brighten up our week when we watch them again. On sadder days, we can pop one of the DVDs in and relive journeys with older characters or stream episodes to remind ourselves of the iconic moments from any of the seasons. Feeling that you are there on these journeys makes fans grow closer to the reality of the undead world.

There are multiple reasons fans have a special place in their hearts for the show, but one of the biggest is the characters we have spent nearly 11 years watching. Fans have preferences on the characters in the show they like best but everyone has played a crucial role and led the story to where it is today. Seeing a character that relates to you and feeling like you are represented is important and allows fans to build up confidence and feel seen. This is more than a show – it’s a way of feeling like your part of something special with people you care about.

Fans love to be able to support the actors involved and support their other works. Fans are enthusiastic about their favourite actors on the show. They can feel inspired and motivated to do things in their lives because of the people they watch on screen. There can be no greater honour for the people involved in The Walking Dead world.

But maybe the most important reason TWD is so important to fans is because it helps us get through some rough times. I know a lot of people turn to the show (in the past and currently) in times of great need or struggle and it has a magic around it that can, even for a few minutes, make things seem a little bit better. You never know what someone is going through so for a show to help their life is extremely important. It is vital to have a place where you feel happy and accepted and TWDU always seems to welcome us in, which in turns leads to people being able to befriend other fans and make great friends from it which is a precious gift.

As we approach the final season of The Walking Dead, there is no better time to remind ourselves why we love the show and why it is important to us. Using this time to be grateful for all the show has done for fans and taking in every last promo, scene, interview and photo will all contribute to the journey we have been on. Most of all, it’s important to be kind to other fans, all the actors and show creators no matter what happens in Season 11, let’s appreciate that it has done for us all as individuals and why it is the best show on TV.
