The Walking Dead universe timeline for all of the upcoming spinoffs
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead universe had a banner year in 2022. The main series concluded its 12-year run, Tales of the Walking Dead was introduced, Fear the Walking Dead’s season 7 ended, and many spinoffs were confirmed or began filming. Another great event is the fantastic Living with The Walking Dead exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image that runs until January 22 in New York.
At AMC’s Television Critics Association winter confab, the network announced plans to continue TWDU with updates on the upcoming spinoff series. Fans have worried about the condition at AMC Networks amid the recent mass layoffs, cancellations, and retractions of previously renewed programming.
But, it appears that AMC knows where the money is, and that is with The Walking Dead universe. The network has grand plans to continue to build this franchise.
The Walking Dead spinoff updates
Fear the Walking Dead – is the first spinoff of the universe, and it was announced that season 8 would premiere on May 14, 2023, and it will be the last season. This isn’t a big surprise, as season 7 was met with less than favorable reviews.
Dead City – will follow TWD characters Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) on a mission to save her son Hershel who has been kidnapped and taken to Manhattan. The new information for this series is that Dead City will now see a June 2023 premiere instead of the April debut.
Daryl Dixon – this series will see Daryl (Norman Reedus) end up in France, but not of his own will. He will meet the variant walkers featured in the coda scene of another spinoff, The Walking Dead: World Beyond. This series is currently filming and has been announced for release in the second half of 2023.
Rick & Michonne – possibly the most highly anticipated of the announced series is the Rick and Michonee series that will see the return of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira to TWDU. This series will begin filming soon and was first announced to be released before the end of 2023. It has now been updated that fans won’t see this series until 2024.
The other series that hasn’t been mentioned is Tales of the Walking Dead, an anthology series that premiered in the summer of 2022. It was an innovative series within TWDU introducing new characters in standalone stories. Viewers could possibly see a second season of this series after the three new ones, but nothing has been announced.
