The Walking Dead universe news, spinoff updates and more
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead fandom received much new information this week as AMC networks revealed several spinoff updates at the Television Critics Association winter session. Mixed news was revealed for Fear the Walking Dead fans, and new information was announced for the three upcoming spinoff series.
The news for Fear the Walking Dead is double-sided as the season 8 premiere has been scheduled for May 14, 2023; this season will be released in two parts, six episodes each. The other side of that news is that this will be the series’ final season. The announcement that this will be the last season wasn’t surprising to most, as season 7 was met with less than favorable reviews. One interesting twist for season 8 will be a massive seven-year time jump.
Dead City, the Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) series, scheduled for an April 2023 debut, has now been moved until June 2023. The exact date has yet to be released but will likely come directly following Fear TWD. It has been confirmed that Maggie and Negan partner on this mission to Manhattan to locate her son Hershel who has been kidnapped.
An official synopsis of Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) adventures in France informs viewers that he will wash up on the shore in France while he tries to piece together what has happened. As he tries to make his way home, obstacles, in the form of new connections, will complicate his goal. Daryl Dixon will release in the second half of 2023.
The news for the Rick (Andrew Lincoln( & MIchonne (Danai Gurira) series wasn’t what fans wanted to hear. The series premiere date has now been moved to sometime in 2024. As production is expected to begin soon, this series will likely release in the early months of 2024.
