The 95th Academy Awards ceremony was held on March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Always a star-studded affair, The Walking Dead universe had several members in attendance, including Danai Gurira, who, once again, stuns on the red carpet.
Gurira, whose red carpet fashions are always something exquisite, turned heads with not only her Jason Wu gown but her towering updo, which pays homage to African women. Gurira had this to say about the hairstyle created by the work of hairstylist Larry Sims:
"This is my African self coming out here, you know a tribute to the women who carry amazingly things on their heads with an astounding poise at all times."
She was in attendance at the event to support her movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was nominated for five awards, but also as a presenter to introduce Rihanna’s powerful performance of “Life Me Up” as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
"Chadwick embodied the Wakandan King, T’Challa. The one chosen to uplift, to protect, to keep us safe. His legacy will live on for future generations…Thank you, King."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gurira talked about filming the Rick and Michonne and how they “let her out of school early” to attend the Oscars.
