Television doesn’t hand out second chances lightly, especially not in an era where new shows rise and fall in the blink of an eye. That’s what makes this current moment feel so amazing. Against a crowded broadcast landscape and sky-high expectations, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s latest NBC series has been officially given the green light for another installment!

No, you didn't read that wrong. Morgan, the talented actor known for playing the ruthless yet strangely charismatic Negan on The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: Dead City, has once again proven that he’s a force viewers can’t resist. NBC has renewed Destination X for a second season, and fans have every reason to celebrate. Morgan will be back to host the show's second installment!

According to Deadline, the network is now casting for a brand-new group of contestants for Destination X season 2 with filming expected to start sometime later this year. So, things are moving right along. The show performed well in its first season. When it premiered in May 2025, it quickly gained traction. In its first 26 days, it reportedly averaged an impressive 14 million viewers across both linear and streaming platforms.

The momentum didn’t stop there. Over the course of its 10-episode run, the series reportedly reached 20 million viewers across all platforms and it was the No. 1 new show of summer 2025. In addition, it was the top non-scripted series launch on Peacock. That said, it doesn't come as a surprise that NBC decided to renew the breakout hit for a second season.

Part of what makes this renewal so exciting is seeing Morgan thrive in a completely different arena. After years of dominating scripted drama with complex, morally gray characters, he stepped into this new project and once again proved his versatility. Hosting a high-stakes global competition series is a far cry from swinging Lucille in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, yet Morgan brought the same commanding presence that made him a television icon in the first place.

Produced by Twofour and Universal Television, Destination X is a reality competition series that drops contestants into a globe-trotting mystery unlike anything else on network TV. Players travel on a blacked-out bus with no idea where they are, competing in challenges designed to offer clues about their secret location along with a few strategic misdirects to keep them guessing.

At the end of each episode, contestants must place an X on a map to mark where they believe they are. The person whose guess lands farthest from the actual destination is eliminated, while the last contestant standing walks away with a $250,000 prize. The first season's cast included a mix of everyday competitors and familiar reality TV faces, including JaNa Craig from Love Island USA season 6, Peter Weber from The Traitors season 2, and Big Brother 19 winner Josh Martinez.

It'll be interesting to see what new reality stars and everyday challengers season 2 will bring. We already have a good list of notable TV personalities that we'd like to see take on the globe-trotting challenges. Season 1 didn't do a bad job with casting, so I don't think we have to worry for season 2. Fingers crossed!

Besides Destination X, Morgan has several other upcoming projects. There's Dead City season 3 that may or may not come out this year. Then, he has Invincible season 4 and The Boys season 5. And we can't forget to mention the new Prime Video drama series, Sterling Point.
