On June 8, the highly anticipated second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. Many fortunate fans and journalists were present at The Indeed Theater at Spring Studios for a special screening of the first episode of season 2. This was followed by a panel featuring Norman Reedus, who portrays Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride, who reprises her role as Carol Peletier, showrunner David Zabel, and TWDU CCO Scott M. Gimple.

Fans of The Walking Dead have longed for the return of McBride to the franchise. She took time off after starring in the main series since 2010 and made a brief return in season 1 of Daryl Dixon. The second season will see a significant focus on Carol in the fifth spinoff of The Walking Dead.

The teasers for the new season showcase Carol, who is back in action as she searches for her best friend. Fans knew Carol wouldn't stand idly by when Daryl never arrived back at the Commonwealth in a week, as he stated in their radio call during the fifth episode of season 1. The teasers show she headed out in search of him and that she'll stop at nothing to find him.

Fans are hopeful for a Carol and Daryl reunion before the end of the season.

Julian Cannon of The Knockturnal attended the event and provided as much information as he was permitted from the panel via Twitter (X). There was much he couldn't share, as it would be spoilers for the episode, but he did share what he could.

A few tidbits from the panel:

  • Zabel had extensive conversations with McBride regarding Carol's progression so the character doesn't become stagnant.
  • Zabel shared that filming season 2 was complicated by tourist travel season.
  • Reedus shared that Daryl's relationship with Laurent will become complicated.
  • Creators made an effort to flesh out other character stories and development.
  • The radio call featured in episode 5 of season one will be revisited this season.
