The Walking Dead universe news: What’s to come in 2023?
By Renee Hansen
Exciting news in The Walking Dead universe this week as the eleventh and last season of the series has been released on Netflix. Now fans can watch the entire series on the streamer. As we’ve entered the new year and know there will be no new Walking Dead episodes, what is there to look forward to in 2023?
The first news is the premiere of The Walking Dead: Dead City in April 2023. This series is the first direct spinoff of the main series, which will see Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) head to apocalyptic Manhattan. The island was cut off early after the outbreak when the US Government blew up the bridges and tunnels, isolating the island from the mainland.
UPDATE: 01/10/2023 AMC has announced that Dead City will release in June 2023.
Fear the Walking Dead, the first spinoff of the flagship, will premiere season 8 in 2023. It is possible that the first part of this season could release ahead of Dead City, but no announcements to that effect have been released. Season 8 of this series has a lot of ground to make up for, as season 7 left much to be desired. Fans are hopeful that the return of fan-favorite Madison Clark (Kim Dicken) will see a renewal in the storyline. This season will see the survivors trying to locate a new safe place to live and reveal more about the mysterious PADRE.
UPDATE: 01/10/2023 AMC has announced that Fear TWD will release part 1 of season 8 on May 14, 2023, and this will be the final season of the series.
Another new series released in the second half of 2023 will be The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Little is known about this series other than Daryl will somehow manage to arrive in France against his will. Then before year-end, The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne, working title Summit, will release. Filming for this project will begin in Atlanta soon, and see a move to New Jersey by February.
UPDATE: 01/10/2023 Rick & Michonne will see a release date sometime in 2024.
