Walker Stalker Con Atlanta 2015 starts on Friday
If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead, you’re probably aware that a herd of very lucky fans will be descending on Atlanta for Walker Stalker Con this weekend, October 30 through November 1. It’s hard to believe that the original Walker Stalker Con happened there only two years ago. Since then, the event has traveled to cities all over the country, and will be going international in 2016 when they visit London.
This weekend, however, all eyes are trained on Atlanta. The doors will be open from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday (2:00 for those with VIP passes), 10:30 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday (9:00 am for VIPs) and 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday (9:00 for VIPs). Those who attend the con here have the home field advantage, since The Walking Dead is filmed only a short distance away, in Senoia, GA.
Speaking of Senoia, it’s just about the most exciting trip a fan of The Walking Dead can take! I visited there this past June with a friend. You can read all about my adventures by clicking here.
Every year, the Atlanta con boasts the best celebrity attendance of any of the other cities it visits. While not every cast member from every season will be there, it’s the closest you’ll get to seeing all of the stars in one place at one time.
As is usually the case, even the illusive Andrew Lincoln (Rick), who does very few public appearances, will be at in attendance on Sunday. Besides Andrew, pretty much all of the fan favorites will be there, including Melissa McBride (Carol), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Steven Yeun (Glenn – who I am convinced is not dead, just for the record!), Danai Gurira (Michonne), and so many more. For the complete list of guests, click here.
As of right now, the only Walking Dead cast member who had been scheduled to attend that has had to cancel is Emily Kinney (Beth).
If you’ve become familiar with Walker Stalker Con, you know that there are always panels and events going on throughout the weekend, and their biggest con is no exception. Because the Atlanta con is so much bigger than it is in other cities, there are also more panels and events this weekend than at the other cons.
On Friday there will be three panels, two of which are related to The Walking Dead. The first one, at 3:15, is called Fear the Charades. Then, at 6:15, the panel entitled Dysfunctional Family will feature Alexandra Breckenridge (Jessie), Corey Brill (Pete) and Major Dodson (Sam).
Besides panels, there will be several special events on Friday afternoon. At 4:00 pm, Tate Steinsiek’s “Bringing the Dead to Life” will demonstrate, over the course of 2 hours, the process of “special effects and cosplay techniques for creating a zombie look.” For more information, click here.
On Friday night, IronE Singleton (T-Dog)’s one man show, Blindsided by The Walking Dead, is scheduled for 8:00 pm. From 9:00 pm – 12:00 am, convention attendees who are 21 or over can attend Dark Dealings: A Casino Night with Walker Stalker Con.
On Saturday and Sunday, the list of panels is so long, they have them running on two different stages. Panels will feature various celebrities, some in groups, including the following: Chandler Riggs (“Carl”) and Jon Bernthal (“Shane“); The Alexandrians, featuring Tovah Feldshuh (Deanna“), Steve Coulter (“Reg“) and Daniel Bonjour (Aiden); and Abraham’s Army with Michael Cudlitz (Abraham), Josh McDermitt (Eugene) and Christian Serratos (Rosita).
Besides the above, there will also be a panel entitled
Closure
with Michael Rooker (
) and IronE Singleton (T-Dog); Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (
) and Sonequa Martin-Green (
);
Closure Part 2
with Scott Wilson (
) and David Morrissey (
); Ross Marquand (
) and Jordan Woods-Robinson (
); Chad L. Coleman (
) and Melissa Ponzio (Karen); and Andrew J. West (
) and Denise Crosby (
).
Probably unsurprisingly, Norman Reedus (Daryl) will have a panel all to himself, as will Greg Nicotero, Jay Bonansinga (author of The Walking Dead: Invasion), Melissa Hutchison (Clementine in The Walking Dead video games), Costume Designer Eulyn Womble, Andrew Lincoln (Rick – please note that this event will require separate tickets), Lennie James (Morgan), and Lincoln A. Castellanos (Tobias) of Fear the Walking Dead. Katelyn Nacon will also perform as a musical guest.
From 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, children in costume will be able to trick or treat on the convention floor, as celebrities and vendors will be armed with candy.
At 9:00 pm on Saturday, an afterparty called Necrosis will be held for those who are 21 and over and who don’t feel like the walking dead themselves after all of the activities of the day. (Personally, I’m tired just from reading about everything that’s going to be happening this weekend!) Separate tickets will be required for Necrosis, and those without convention tickets will also be able to purchase them as well.
On Sunday, besides the aforementioned Andrew Lincoln panel (for which tickets are, unfortunately by not surprisingly, sold out) at 10:00 am, there will also be the Apocalypse Zombie Experience, which gives participants the chance to shoot zombies with Tactical Laser M4s. Finally, for anyone who’s still around at 9:00 pm on Sunday there will be, of course, a viewing of this weekend’s episode of The Walking Dead as well as a live podcast.
Now that you know what the rest of us who won’t be in Atlanta will be missing, try not to turn too green with envy at those who are lucky enough to attend this weekend’s event. After all, The Walking Dead shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon, so chances are, we’ll all have another chance, at least in theory, to Attend Walker Stalker Atlanta next year.
